Dear Subscriber,
Welcome to the first issue of The Insider for 2010, the 7th year of the Fairfield County Concours. You are receiving this because you have participated with us in the past, are a sponsor of the Concours or have expressed interest in keeping up with our news, and we thank you.
The 2010 Fairfield County Concours d'Elegance is on track to be our best ever. We are assembling our most exciting field of automobiles and motorcycles yet. As every year, the primary show field will be laid out chronologically, so that our guests can view the entire history of the motor vehicles in logical order.
For Sunday's Concours (Sept. 12), in addition to the primary field, our Special Exhibits which, as always, are unjudged are: - Styled by the Wind: a celebration of automotive aerodynamics in pre-war cars, particularly as demonstrated by serious coachbuilders Notable - though this is just one -- will be a 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III that has unique and stunning aerodynamic coachwork fitted by the Parisian coachbuilder Henri Labourdette and is known as the Vutotal Cabriolet.
- Cars styled by Howard "Dutch" Darrin: an exhibit of examples of the amazing coachwork from Dutch. Ralph Marano is graciously sharing his extraordinary collection with us, he will bring five spectacular examples of Packard "Darrins." In addition, a number of additional collectors have agreed to bring us outstanding examples. More news later in the summer.
- The 24 Hours of LeMans: Each year we celebrate a racing venue. This year it will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We will have an unbelievable collection of winners and other cars that compete in the storied event, including - just to give you a taste - a legendary pre-war winner is an 8C 2300MM Alfa Romeo that won the race in 1933 driven by Tazio Nuvolari and Raymond Sommer, while from the post war winners we have one of the most original racing Ferraris in the world with the 1965 Ferrari 250 LM that was driven by Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt, this particular Ferrari is coming from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.
Our Featured Judging Classes for 2010 are: -
Bugatti - celebrating 100 years
-
Porsche - celebrating the timelessness of an extraordinary marque
-
Period Hot Rods & Customs (built in the 50's) - celebrating the quintessential American idiom
As always, we will have exciting kids' activities, a spectacular exhibit of Art & Automobilia and a Saturday full of additional activities. Saturday (Sept. 11) will feature our annual Car & Motorcycle Club Celebration, seminars of interest to collectors and enthusiasts, Art & Automobilia and the Nutmeg Tour for Autism, our fundraiser supporting diagnosis and treatment for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Come on Saturday to see some amazing club cars, talk with their owners, enjoy seminars and support our charity fundraiser.
